Tiffany Spears Cause of Death

A 15-month-old boy whose body was found tied up in his car seat inside his Tennessee home died of hunger and dehydration after his mother overdosed on methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the latest autopsy report.

On February 9, 2021, Tiffany Spears, 32, and her 15-month-old son, Nicholas Crowder, were found dead inside her Portland home, northeast of Nashville. The medical examiner, who ruled that both deaths were an accident, said Spears had been dead for several days after the death from a drug overdose.

Earlier this year, we reported that a Kentucky mother, 33-year-old Lauren Ashley Baker, accidentally murdered her 2-year-old son with fentanyl purchased with the stimulus check. We also reported another bizarre incident when a North Carolina mother was arrested after giving her 14-year-old daughter a cocktail of heroin, fentanyl and methamphetamine, after which she died.

It is unclear how long Crowder had been dead before the two bodies were discovered. The cause of her death was determined to be the result of hunger and dehydration. Her 3-year-old sister, who was found alive in the home, appeared to have tried to care for him prior to her death. The medical examiner has stated that food, including dried eggs and eggshells, was found in and around her car seat.

Authorities were first informed after an officer went to the home on February 9 and found it locked. The probation officer called 911 after she looked out the window and saw Spears lying on the bathroom floor and the girl running through the house. Crowder was found tied to his car seat on a bedroom floor.

The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment. Autopsy reports later confirmed that Spears had died of a drug overdose. Her toxicology report indicates that she had signs of methamphetamine and fentanyl in her system. Officers said there were no leads to foul play.

Now, the Sumner County Sheriff's Office is trying to uncover more information to build a schedule of events and determine when the last known contact with Spears was made. Anyone with information about the incident should call Detective Lance Hampton at 615-442-1849.
