Nicola Tanturli Wiki - Nicola Tanturli Biography

Nicola Tanturli had wandered from his isolated home in the Apennines sometime late Monday night, and was the subject of an intense 24-hour search and Italian media coverage. A 21-month-old boy was found alive Wednesday at the bottom of a ravine after spending two nights alone in the woods near his home in Tuscany.

Church bells rang in celebration in the town of Palazzuolo sul Senio, near Florence, when the boy was found, about 2 kilometers from his home. The boy was found when a television journalist heard him groaning, emerging with a blow to the head and some scratches, but otherwise in good condition.

Church bells rang in celebration in the town of Palazzuolo sul Senio, near Florence, when the boy was found, about 2 kilometers from his home. A reporter for RAI state television covering the story was walking down a dirt road toward the family's home when he heard groans from a tree-covered and scrub-covered ravine.

"I started yelling, 'Nicola', to understand if it could be the boy. I heard 'mama'," Giuseppe Di Tommaso said on RAI. I started repeating the word 'mom', because children of that age repeat words. When I sensed that it could be Nicola, I went down to the ravine ”.

He said he could see the boy on the other side, about 10 meters away, in a hard-to-reach area full of thorny bushes. At that moment a car passed and Di Tommaso called two Carabinieri paramilitary officers, who initially did not believe that the sounds could come from the child, "this is an area full of animals that make sounds that may sound like a child." Di Tommaso said.

Carabinieri commander Danilo Ciccarelli said he climbed about 25 meters up the embankment, expecting to find a small deer. Instead, Nicola appeared, with her little head in the tall grass. He said, 'Mom,' and I walked over to him. He hugged me right away," said the commander.

He checked the boy's condition, finding only a few scratches and a small bump on his head, before taking him up the embankment and reuniting him with his parents.

"It was a tremendous joy to bring him back into the arms of his mother," Commander Ciccarelli said.

The commander does not believe that the boy spent the night where he was found, because the brush and grass were not packed, and it was likely that he had arrived through the forest, not the road. "He is a very active boy, very lively," Mayor Gian Piero Philip Moschetti said at a press conference.

"He could walk a mile an hour. We have no idea how far he could have traveled. He was used to leaving the house and living outdoors."
