Xavior Harrelson Age
Xavior Harrelson is 11 years old.
Missing - Searching
Xavior Harrelson was last seen around 11 a.m. Thursday on his bike near his family's home on the north side of Montezuma, according to the Associated Press. He's 4 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs 100 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a red shirt and blue pajama pants with black high-top shoes when he disappeared, authorities said.
Hundreds of volunteers gathered Sunday morning at Montezuma High School to search for a missing 10-year-old boy. Police and family of the boy said it is out of the ordinary for him to be gone from home overnight with no contact, and authorities consider him to be endangered.
DCI Assistant Director Mitch Mortvedt said areas around the family's home were being searched Sunday. About 375 volunteers and 125 law enforcement officers and first responders gathered at the school around 9 a.m. Sunday and were being bused to search locations.
Connie Thompson, of Montezuma, waited in line for a bus around 10 a.m. Sunday. Thompson said she has an 11-year-old grandson Harrelson's age who knows him.
"It hits home," Thompson said.
Dena Bear, of Barnes City, stood in line with Thompson. She's a single mom with two kids in their teens, Bear said. Her son is related to Rita Janelle Papakee, who went missing in 2015 after leaving a Tama casino, Bear said.
"I couldn't sleep last night," Bear said. "This is like a mom's worst nightmare. So you don't sleep at night thinking about the mom, thinking about some poor child."
Bill Ferdinand, 79, drove about 80 miles from Marion with his service dog to help search. He has three adult kids, Ferdinand said as he waited for a bus.
"When you've raised three children of your own and you haven't had this problem, you realize how blessed you are," Ferdinand said. "Certainly you look at the misery that the parents and family and friends are going through in this difficult time."
An Amber Alert was not issued after Harrelson's disappearance because it is not believed to be a criminal incident, Mortvedt said. It's considered a missing child case, he said. But authorities consider him endangered because of his age, Mortvedt said.

"We're holding out hope," Mortvedt said. "We have nothing to indicate anything other than that."
By the time crews started their searches Sunday morning, Harrelson had been missing almost 72 hours. Ferdinand acknowledged the odds were stacked against searchers but said his faith in Jesus made him hope Harrelson is still alive.
"I pray for the lad," Ferdinand said.
Mortvedt was not sure how long volunteers would search Sunday.
Law enforcement has searched neighborhoods and other homes in Montezuma, Mortvedt said. On Saturday they searched Diamond Lake Park. Two dive teams also searched the lake, he said. Airplanes, drones, all-terrain vehicles, horses and dogs have also been used, he said.
"We know that kids often go out there on bikes and trails," Mortvedt said.
Flatter areas outside of places already searched were mostly being searched Sunday, he said. But a couple of buses took volunteers to rugged areas at Diamond Lake Park. Volunteers wandered through waist-high thickets and ducked under barbed wire fences.
Harrelson's home is at a mobile home park near Montezuma High School.
"Diamond Lake is straight west of us," Mortvedt said at the high school. "Around the corner here, it's more flat rolling hills, so it's areas like that we're focusing on. If he did wander away, how far could he get with no food, water? You wouldn't think all that far."
Larena Windmer watched dozens of searchers in bright yellow vests crawl under barbed wire dividing her property from Diamond Lake Park. Windmer already searched areas of her property for Harrelson. After more than 90 minutes at Diamond Lake Park, the volunteers' search came up empty.
