Paulina Arreola Pérez was killed by gunmen on motorcycles after she was tricked into meeting a fake customer who wanted to buy her shoes. Her friend Eduardo Arturo Trejo was also killed in the shooting in Mexico City on June 9.

Paulina was showered with bullets and suffered nine gunshot wounds, while Eduardo suffered two while sitting in his Honda truck. Paramedics and police attended the scene before both succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

It is believed that she was attacked for her ties to the criminal group 'La Unión Tepito' and her ex-boyfriend Alexis 'El Alexis' Martínez, one of the cartel leaders. The organization is well known for being involved in the sale of narcotics, kidnappings, extortions, and murders in and around the Mexican capital.

Paulina had lived a life of luxury with her mobster boyfriend, traveling the world and wearing designer clothes. The couple shared snapshots of their quirky vacations in places like Dubai, Athens, and Toronto on social media, most of which were paid for with cloned credit cards.

Mafia boss Martínez was murdered in March this year by a hitman disguised as a food delivery man in the city of Zapopan, forcing her ex-partner to start selling shoes online to earn income. Later, Paulina was allegedly lured into a meeting with an anonymous suspect posing as a potential client.

After the death of her boyfriend, Paulina shared her anguish on social networks and posted the moving message: "Someday we will meet again."

The murder of Paulina makes her the third girlfriend of a member of La Unión Tepito to fulfill her destiny, after the murders of Valeria Díaz in May last year and Nayibi Mustafa in March.

The trio became known as 'Las novias de La Unión', which means 'The brides of the Union'.
